stopher - I like the rail suggestion, and I'm indifferent to bricks or concrete.
I'm personally not the biggest fan of jersey barriers, but they are pretty popular and some skaters can do some crazy shit on them - I wouldn't worry about the speed, there's a enough lines in there, just not directly at right angles.
your alternative dipped-bank is cool, but other than the small dip it's just another bank, so I think the jersey barrier creates a more unique obstacle.
im probably never gonna skate this park in my whole life, i'm not even sure if my opinion is being heard by the right people, but I like to add my 2 cents because I understand what parks need to have, so we don't end up with Dulwich hill volcanoes in dumb spots at every park.
I quite like the aesthetic design of this rail over putting in a generic one. While more expensive it would be nice.
If all goes to plan we have just over a million to work with. That is more than enough money to have everything we want. As I said before, Tasmania does not have any vert ramps (bowls included). It's really time to get a legitimate bowl put in for the people who want to skate one (including myself - no surprises). As the saying goes, 'you build it and they will come'.
Dear Skatepark Builders/Designers..
Less is more. More Space, less obstacles. Lower and longer is always better than higher and shorter
that street section looks totally cramped
That whole extension at Dulwich Hill looks like poo tbh. I agree about the dipped bank. Quite possible to have half and half so you get the best of both worlds. Money is the big factor though.
wasnt starting beef, i reckon you can over complicate all this shit, just make whas there with shit taken out like that angle box. rather than thinking of more stuff to chuck in
Over a million dollars to work with?! Holy fuck. So this skatepark WILL be as the design suggests? We won't get ripped off like we did with the past 3-4 parks that got designed, but changed last minute; either taking obstacles out or changing the design completely?

Yeah thats how its looking. Its all dependent on whether we get the funding from our grant submissions. You can thank Simon for that hard work. It's looking like we'll get the money but nothings promised. If we don't get as much funding the street section will stay as originally planned. That can be confirmed. The bowl is what the finding is giving us. The bowl, lighting and all the extra shot is what the other funding is giving us. I wouldn't be surprised if we couldn't do more of we got it all though. Fingers crossed.
Stopher what do you mean the bump and the mini kicker don't add anything? Are you insane? The hump adds flow to the park from the top section to the small section, the mini kicker adds access to the flat bar from the other side.
It's hard to judge from the graphic (maybe I'm mis-judging the size of the park) but the kicker seems like it would be too tight to really get a good, smooth pop off onto the flat bar. I could be wrong though. If you get rid of it you have a high flat bar to hit from that side and lets more people roll through that area a bit better.
I like the roll over but seems like it might cramp things up a bit. If you got rid of the kicker It would be good though. Just my 2c.
...we all need to get together for a discussion on this. Phonecall from them yesterday requires some action. Bit of a suprise for them to now say that they are 'not in control' and I'm being asked to present a plan which omits the stage and BBQ areas, dispite having recently lodged a major grant application for this. Apparently the Aldermen need to be accepting of the plans.... so we need to get audience with them, but right now we are being shut out to some extent... for 'political' reasons.
Not to worry too much, skatepark is still a goer.... and it will be good. Bowl design was a 'quickie'... and defenitely needs work, and some tweeks to other parts.
